Square Appointments alternatives in Canada and the US

The short answer

Most businesses looking past Square Appointments do not have a calendar problem, they have an empty-chair problem. Square runs the appointment well; it just does not go and find anyone. Before you move, be honest about which of the two you actually need, because the answer changes what you should do.

Why businesses go looking

Structural reasons, not complaints. These are properties of how Square Appointments is built, and they will not change because you asked.

  • There is no marketplace, so every client is one you found and paid to find yourself
  • The monthly fee starts once you have staff, whether the calendar fills or not
  • Scheduling software cannot solve not being known, however good the scheduling is
  • Booking sits inside a system built around the card reader rather than around discovery

Before you move anything

This advice holds whoever you are leaving and whoever you are going to, us included.

  1. 01

    Do not cancel anything yet

Run the new one alongside the old one for a few weeks. Listing with us is free and there is no monthly fee, so the only cost of overlapping is your time, and it is the only way to compare what each one actually sends you rather than what each one claims.

  2. 02

    Export your client list first

Do this while your account is still active. Check the export for real email addresses, phone-only records and duplicates before you rely on it. A list you cannot contact is not a list, and this is the single thing that is genuinely hard to recover once an account closes.

  3. 03

Let bookings already in the calendar finish where they are

Moving appointments that clients have already confirmed is where mistakes get expensive. Take new bookings on the new system and let the old calendar empty itself out.

  4. 04

Check what happens to deposits in flight

If you take deposits, find out how refunds and payouts are handled for bookings made before you switched. This is worth asking their support directly and getting in writing.

  5. 05

Your reviews usually do not come with you

Reviews are tied to the platform that collected them, and no amount of exporting changes that. Assume you are starting again on ratings wherever you go, and plan to ask your regulars early.

Where we fit

  • The Chair puts your work in front of people across Canada and the US who were not looking for you by name
  • Listing is free, so adding us alongside Square costs nothing to try
  • Calendar, staff, availability, deposits, payouts and reporting are included if you do want to move them
  • We do not do point of sale, stock or retail. If the counter matters, keep Square for it

Common questions about switching

Can I keep Square and still use BurgundyBlend?
Yes, and plenty do. Square handles the counter and the card reader, we bring the clients. Listing is free, so running both costs nothing but the setup time.
Does BurgundyBlend replace Square Appointments?
It can. Calendar, per-staff availability, services, deposits, payouts and reporting are all included. Whether you move them is your call, and nothing forces it.
Do you do point of sale and retail?
No. Stock, retail and the card reader on the counter are outside what we do, and if those are central to your day then Square is doing a job we are not trying to take on.
